About us
Pilgrim House Albergue Ballerup
The idea for the Pilgrim House in Ballerup arose after walking on the Camino de Santiago in Spain.
The association behind the Pilgrim House was founded on 28 April 2016 and in June 2017 we received the keys to the house. We immediately set about to decorate the house according to the Spanish model and were able to hold at housewarming party on 26 August 2017. In October 2018 we received occupancy permit from Ballerup Municipality. So today we can welcome hikers who come on foot on the Danish Pilgrim Route through Ballerup and would like a bed to sleep in, a hot bath and perhaps prepare a meal in the well-equipped kitchen.
The Pilgrim House
The house, which was previously a playroom for daycare children, had been empty for a year and a half before Albergue Ballerup took over.
Ballerup Municipality makes the house available to the Association Albergue Ballerup. The association is 100% self-owned, we do not receive subsidies, but run the house solely for what we earn by holding Seasonal Walks, Camino Cafés and lectures, and in the long term also by income for overnight stays.
There are 14 bunks distributed in 3 rooms, and a shelter with room for 3-4 people in the garden, shower and toilet, possibility to wash clothes and to prepare food, drink a cup of coffee and relax before the next day's hike. Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome in the house, as there may be guests who are allergic or afraid of dogs.
We have received two donations from the Nordea Foundation to bunks and white goods, and we have received DKK 25,000 from the Simon Spies Foundation. We have received donations from the Velux Foundation which paid for two hammocks for the garden and 25 High School songbooks. In addition, the Outdoor Council has sponsored a shelter that was set up in the garden in 2023.
